In loving memory of Grant Smith

By Pam Smith

November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month, and I’m taking action to support people facing one of the world’s deadliest cancers.

For too long, pancreatic cancer has been underfunded, understudied, and overlooked. That ends now.

Every year, more than 7,100 Canadians are diagnosed and 6,100 die from this disease. Most are diagnosed too late, when treatment options are limited. Despite decades of effort, the five-year survival rate has risen from just 1% in the 1970s to only 10% today.

That’s not good enough.

I’m raising funds to help drive research breakthroughs, improve treatments, and support patients and families living with pancreatic cancer. Together, we can make survival possible.

Please donate today and be part of the movement for Survival, Not Sympathy.

Grant James Smith March 31, 1964 - September 8, 2025

Monday 3rd Nov

Grant was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on April 14 and fought hard. Through his journey he encountered many complications, hospital stays and his last bout of pneumonia that brought him to the hospital on August 24 was too much for his tired body to fight and he lost his battle. He was a kind soul, a wonderful father, and my best friend whose life was taken far too soon.
