We’re fundraising in honour of someone we love.
Why an 80's Flashback Fundraiser?
In November 2020 my brother Jeff was diagnosed with metastatic pancreatic cancer. A quick google search will show you that the average person with this diagnosis lives 4-5 months. Jeff lived exactly 20 months to the day of his diagnosis. 20 months wasn’t nearly long enough but we made the most of all we had.
If you followed Jeff’s blog, you’re no stranger to knowing his positive attitude and will to live (and some relatively new treatments to Canada) kept him here just a little longer.
Last January I started a fundraiser that was intended to help pay a few bills during such a terrible time in his life. That fundraiser ended up changing my life and his. It made things more comfortable for his family and showed all of us just how amazing people are. The generosity was mind-blowing.
When Jeff’s treatments stopped working he was told his only chance was to be in a cancer research study. Unfortunately, there were no studies available to him and time ran out.
Even in his final days, he never gave up hope that some miracle study would become available to him. It did not. He didn’t enter into Palliative care until 3 days before he passed- just in case more options came along.
Jeff believed strongly in his doctors and in research- this is why the fundraiser is for Pancreatic Cancer Canada. He said “even if it’s too late for me, maybe I can help someone else’.
Jeff only spent 3 days in Palliative care.
3 days that our family won’t ever forget. The program is amazing and I will forever feel indebted to them. The resources provided by this community-funded program are second to none.
Both charities are near and dear to our family and all the proceeds will be split 50/50.
The community did not disappoint! The event raised an incredible $12 000, split between the 2 charities, we were able to donate $6000 to each!
