I'm fundraising for my late husband, Michael
On October 24th, I’ll be running the Pancreatic Cancer Run for Survival in memory of my husband, Michael and the father of our beautiful son, Xavier.
Michael and I were together from the time we were 15 years old. We grew up together, built a life together, and dreamed of growing old together. We were lucky enough to have our greatest dream come true when we became parents to Xavier.
Then, in what felt like the blink of an eye, everything changed. One day Michael was healthy and living his life; the next, we were told he had terminal pancreatic cancer. He survived just five months from the day he was diagnosed.
Michael was a true fighter until the very end. Even while battling this disease, he continued to play hockey, work for his clients, and be there for his family for as long as he possibly could.
Seven years later, the loss of the life we were supposed to have still hurts deeply. But I’m running because I want Michael’s story, and the stories of so many other families, to help create a future where pancreatic cancer is found earlier, treated more effectively, and no one has to lose someone they love so suddenly.
I’m running for Michael. I’m running for Xavier. And I’m running for all the families who have been changed forever by pancreatic cancer.
For the life we dreamed of. For the years we should have had. For Michael.
