Pancreatic Cancer Has Only 8-13% 5 Year Survival Rate
Wednesday 4th FebMy Grandmother passed of Pancreatic cancer. My father who had survived Non Hodgkins Lymphoma with a stem cell transplant & battled Graft vs Host Disease, valiantly I might add, was about to be given a Pancreatic cancer diagnoses the day he passed from an embolism, which was a downstream & very serious side effect of the Graft Vs Host Disease.
In honour of my family members who suffered from Pancreatic Cancer, which disproportionately affects those of Ashkenazi Jewish descent as well as those of African descent, I hope you may consider making a contribution.
The stats are very intimidating and need drastic improvement. The 5-year relative survival rate for Pancreatic cancer is 13% overall, but JUST 8% for people
diagnosed with exocrine tumors which comprise 92% of diagnoses! (versus 72% for NETs. Even for the 17% of people
diagnosed with localized pancreatic cancer, the 5-yr
survival rate is only 44%)
Fewer than 20% of patients are candidates for
surgery, which may help extend one's Life, because the cancer has usually spread beyond
the pancreas at diagnosis.
Pancreatic cancer is under resourced & understudied across the board. Testing is severely lagging for early detection. Therapy, clinical trial & management options are limited. Surgery is difficult, if it's even an option. For 80% of those stricken, it is not.
I hope you can help support Pancreatic Cancer research.
