My Why

Wednesday 3rd Sep

On September 7th I will be chopping off my locks for Wigs for Kids. I’ll also be leading a rowing workshop followed by a memorial workout, with all proceeds going to Pancreatic Cancer Canada.

This will be my 5th time donating my hair since 2011—a tradition that has already raised more than $10,000 for cancer charities and contributed nearly 100 inches of hair to make wigs for those undergoing cancer treatment. Many of you have been supporting me from the start - thank you!

But this year feels different. This year is personal.

Just before Christmas, we lost my Uncle Terry to pancreatic cancer. Growing up, I spent so many summers with him, my Auntie Karen, and my cousins Kasha and Shawna. They were like a second family to me. My favourite memories are from those summers—at the cabin, kids-versus-adults soccer, riding quads, and Uncle Terry playing his accordion by the fire. He and Auntie Karen were the truest example of love, friendship and partnership, and a model Rob and I still look up to.

We were lucky to bring Avery to the cabin last summer, and I’ll never forget how Uncle Terry’s kindness and wit came out in the way he connected with her - a memory I’ll always hold close.

Sadly, this isn’t the first time my family has faced this disease. My dad has now lost two brothers to pancreatic cancer—Uncle Marty in 2016, and Uncle Terry in 2024.

That’s why this year’s event means so much to me.

If you’re local, I’d love for you to join us for the workshop and work. If you can’t be there in person, you can still take part by doing the workout at your own gym—or by making a donation to support the cause. Every rep, every ounce of sweat, and every dollar truly helps in the fight against this devastating disease

Hair, Sweat and Tears @ TFA Westshore

Friday 29th Aug

On September 7th Sarah will be leading a rowing workshop, followed by a Hero WOD, and her latest hair donation- with all proceeds going to Pancreatic Cancer Canada.

This will be her 5th time donating her hair—a tradition that has already raised more than $10,000 for cancer charities and contributed nearly 100 inches of hair to make wigs for those undergoing cancer treatment.

This year’s fundraiser is especially close to her heart. Just days before Christmas, Sarah lost her Uncle Terry to pancreatic cancer. To honour his memory, she is combining her love of rowing with her commitment to making a difference.

Through strength, movement, and community, Sarah continues to carry forward the fight against cancer—one stroke, one step, and one act of generosity at a time.

Suggested donation $30-$50
