In loving memory of Grant Smith
It’s hard to believe it’s been a year without you, Grant. One year since our world was turned upside down and we lost you, a wonderful father, and my soul mate — a life taken far too soon.
Grant was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on April 14, 2025, and fought incredibly hard. Throughout his journey, he faced complication after complication and countless hospital stays. His last bout of pneumonia brought him to the hospital on August 24, 2025. After everything his body had endured, his tired body was simply too worn out to fight any longer. On September 8, 2025, Grant lost his battle.
But Grant was so much more than his cancer. He may have had a hard exterior but deep down he was a kind, gentle, and selfless soul that would go out of his way to help anyone—a loving and caring husband and father who always looked after us, and my best friend. His life was taken far too soon, and we feel his absence every single day in everything we do.
Pancreatic cancer remains one of the world’s deadliest cancers. Too many people are diagnosed too late, when treatment options are limited. For too long, this disease has been underfunded, understudied, and overlooked.
That’s not good enough.
I’m raising funds to help drive research breakthroughs, improve treatments, support patients and families, and give people facing pancreatic cancer more time with the people they love.
Because Grant deserved more time.
His children deserved more time with
their dad.
I deserved more time with my best friend.
One year without him is a reminder of why this fight matters so much.
If you’d like to stand with us in this fight, please consider donating to this important cause. Every dollar helps support pancreatic cancer research, improve treatments, and give hope to families facing this devastating disease.
You can also join our family at Edmonton’s annual pancreatic cancer fundraising event, the Run for Survival Edmonton, taking place on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
Come walk or run alongside our family as we honour Grant, remember those we’ve lost, support those still fighting, and raise much-needed funds for pancreatic cancer research and support.
Please consider donating, joining us, or sharing this post. Together, we can help bring us closer to a future where pancreatic cancer doesn’t take our loved ones far too soon.
For Grant. For our family. For all those we’ve lost. For everyone still fighting. 💜
November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month. 💜
