I didn't know how quickly it was going to end...

See, growing up in the church, you heard of so many people getting healed or fighting off the wars of cancer. You didn't really hear the other side of that: the many who fought but didn't make it. Was their faith less intense, less committed, less true than those who survived? Was it the look of the draw? Did somehow God love the people who survived more than they loved a person like my dad?
These are all questions that I pondered on after his passing. During his passing, something interesting happened. There was a sense of urgency, a sense of intention with every moment we had together. Often times, I would stay the night over while he was getting his treatment to help my mom with his care. I didn't really do much. I helped him to the washroom a couple times, and I cooked maybe once or twice. What I recognized was that my presence was the true value that he appreciated the most. Me just being around, being curious about his life and not stopping until I got answers to pretty much all of my questions, was one of the small victories throughout this journey, which he unfortunately succumbed to.
Why should you give? You should give if my father impacted you, touched your life, your heart. You should give if you believe in the cause and the purpose. You should support and be a part of this event to show that there's still hope and there's still life, and there's still people who believe in a cure.
